Valencian Art for India

Over 250 people attended the inauguration of a very special art exhibition in Valencia on Tuesday 23rd of February.

The Puchol Art Gallery in C/ Conde de Salvatierra nº 32 played host to a collection of 79 original works by 77 Valencian artists, which have been donated in order to raise money for a very special cause.

The Foundation DASYC, founded in 1994 and with 250 volunteer workers, persuaded, with very little arm-twisting, some of Valencia’s best artists to donate works in order to raise money for a project that will build a centre in Dehli, India, that will permit local women to become self-sufficient through a programme to train them in the skills that they need in order to become autonomous workers.

The organisation responsible for this project in India is called “KAMALINI”, and top artists such as Yturralde, Miquel Navarro, Michavila, Carmen Calvo, Ribera

Berenguer, Horacio Silva, Carmen Calvo, Ribes Coll, Luis Moscardo, Vicente

Peris, Javier Chapa, Alberto Morago, Esteve Adam, Alejandro Hermann, Vicente

Colóm, Merello and many more have contributed paintings and culptures that may be bought at half price.

Some of these artists, such as Javier Chapa, Vicente Colom, Horacio Silva, Victoria Cano, Ribes Coll and Pepa Nicolau were among the 250 people who attended the opening night.

Kamalini already Works with 120 women in Sahpur-hat and Kishangar, and with the money raised a new centre for a further 465 women will be built.

The paintings and sculptures will be on show until 20th March, and can be visited from Tuesday to Friday 10.30 to 13.30 and 17.00 to 20.30, and on Saturdays from 11.30 to 14.00 and from 18.00 to 20.30. On Mondays they only open in the afternoon.

DASYC has projects operating in India, Guatemala, El Salvador, Peru, Nicaragua, South Africa and Ethiopia.
