At UPV Until 17th November

This Exhibition is organised by the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and supported by the IASS (International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures) and the company “CMD Ingenieros SL”.  It will be held in the UPV Exhibition Centre (Sala de Exposiciones) until 17th November 2009 and is entitled “Mamoru Kawaguchi- Structural Engineer: Innovation and tradition in structural projects”. 

The exhibition shows a sample of the works by Mamoru Kawaguchi, one of the most exceptional personalities in the world of structural projects. Kawaguchi has a PhD in Structural Engineering and an Honorary Degree from Stuttgart University (Germany). He is the author of structural projects for works such as the Yoyogi Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, the Sant Jordi Palace and Tianjin Museum, among others, and he also invented the Pantadome system.

The Exhibition contains thirty work models constructed by the engineer, as well as explanatory texts and graphic material showing the structural systems, constructive procedures and conception tools used in his many projects.

Among his major undertaken design works are:

 #Tokyo Olympic Indoor Stadiums (Suspension roofs)

 #Grand Roof for Expo '70 in Osaka (Double layer space frame)

 #Fuji Group Pavilion for Expo '70 (Air-inflated structure)

 #Pavilions for Foreign Countries EXPO'85

 #Pavilions for the 12th World Orchid Conference (Air-inflated structure)

 #100m Jumbo Flying Carp

 #West Japan Exhibition centre (Cable-styled roof)

  #Kobe Municipal Sports Center (Steel spatial structure)

 #World memorial Hall in Kobe (First Pantadome structure)

    Neither of them suffered structural damages in the recent earthquake.

 #Invention of Pantadome system which has been applied to several major spatial structures, such as the World Memorial Hall, Singapore Indoor Stadium, Sant Jordi Sports Hall, Sundome Fukui and the Osaka Sports Center, Osaka Prefecture.

1997    AIJ Prize (Sundome Fukui)
